As an entrepreneur, finding inexpensive and efficient solutions for everyday tasks could be considered a job requirement. When it comes to software development, the task may seem daunting. The software industry remains an obscure enigma to many who have no formal background in the subject. Just because you’ve never learned how to code, doesn’t mean you can’t make smart decisions about software for your business. Using Google Apps Script to develop software is a straightforward, cost-effective solution to problems requiring automation.
Intern. The bottom of the food chain in the office. Or so you thought.
A computer bug: an error in a computer system that produces incorrect results.
Adulting is scary. Entering the real world is like riding Space Mountain at Disney World for the first time… you’re headed into the darkness. Take it from me, a current sophomore Daylight Data intern trying to figure out how on earth I will possibly fit into the work force. Let me introduce you to someone who gained some real-world experience from Daylight, Felipe.
A triangle is a strong shape. It's easy to remember a list of three. When Daylight Data President Shaun Pack founded the company, he wanted it to be mission-driven toward values that resonate with him. He searched for virtues that balanced each other. The search landed him on authenticity, ambition, and empathy.
When you are working with MVPs, the goal of the UX designer is to create organization, harmony, and clarity with minimal changes. This may look like changes to typography, color, or something more structural like page layout. A UX designer is a critical player to the MVP team because of their ability to create organization and elevate a design.
Nice to meet you all, I am Michelle, Daylight Data’s User Experience Design Manager. To explain in the most simple way, my job is to improve apps/websites/software by creating the path of least resistance through means of graphic layout, hierarchy, and empathetic thinking. Daylight Data gave me my first opportunity to develop my skills in this field as an intern. At the time I was in undergrad studying industrial design but teaching myself user experience (UX) design on the side. The internship confirmed my passion and gave me a clear direction for my career.
With our focus on creating value with MVPs, we are often able to provide simple software-driven solutions to one-off pain points. It’s tempting to try to always look for the big data, scalable solution but many of our clients have needs that are more time sensitive.

An MVP, or Minimum Viable Product, is the starting point for an entrepreneur. It’s the simplest form of your idea that is easy to make and used to test the market and discover whether consumers will actually buy your product or service.
Are you an entrepreneur in the the Triangle area? We want to talk to you. This summer, Daylight Data will be hosting a series of Innovator Spotlights, where local entrepreneurs will be interviewed about their companies. You’ll have the chance to talk about your business and help influence the next generation of business leaders. It’s all part of our mission of making the Triangle a place where innovators can thrive.
In this article, we examine a basic statistical perspective to evaluate to what extent the gender wage gap truly exists, and we offer some thoughts about what could be done about it.
Let’s take a look at a couple peculiar correlations just for fun. The first correlation we found is between each World Cup teams’ FIFA rank and “Freedom to make life choices” index. The “Freedom to make life choices” index is a value calculated by the United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network in their annual World Happiness Report. The correlation yields a correlation coefficient (r) of -0.35 and an R² value of 12%. Essentially, these numbers tell us that there is a minimal correlation between FIFA rank and the “Freedom to make life choices” index, countries with higher levels of freedom are possibly associated with better soccer teams.
Businesses we work with are constantly attempting to gain a competitive advantage in their respective industries. As advanced software technologies continue to increase in importance, organizations need to find creative and unique ways to activate their data to inform their business model. This forms the question: is it better to hire a full-time employee or contract an agency to take a company to the next level? Hiring an agency is often more beneficial for early-stage and small businesses with short-term projects because agencies are cost-effective, offer a unique perspective, have experience, and have a flexible payment structure.
